Coastal Monitoring sites at Stonehaven and Loch Ewe

There has been a training programme going on at Stonehaven and at the laboratory, to train a significant number of  new personnel and ensure that techniques and procedures are of a high standard.

This is going very well although the poor weather at sea has caused quite a bit of disruption to the sampling programme.

There has also been a change to the personnel carrying out the sampling at Loch Ewe, with Jane Grant and her husband taking over complete responsibility for the sampling.

Jane and Roddy have for years supplied the boat to carry out the sampling programme, however with the closure of the Aultbea facility and staff retirements this valuable sampling site was in jeopardy until Jane and Roddy agreed to take it on.

MSS staff visited them at their home on Isle Ewe and supplied them with all the necessary equipment , and discussed protocols and procedures.

This is all now working well at both locations,and is a credit to the hard work and dedication of all concerned.

  We have a pupil studying AH Geography who is interested in doing a comparison of Stonehaven harbour with Aberdeen harbour – or something similar.
