Planning for growth

Last night, the Scottish Parliament passed a motion which stressed the importance of the planning system for sustainable economic growth, and the importance of working collaboratively to improve the planning system.

Planning has an important role to play in sustainable economic growth, and I’m committed to streamlining and simplifying the planning system to ensure it does not act as a barrier to economic growth and sustainable development – while ensuring communities are properly consulted and involved.

I’ve been in listening mode since becoming Planning Minister last December, getting a fuller understanding of the links between the planning system and our broader Economic Strategy. Of course planning must support our overarching purpose of increasing sustainable economic growth.
