Guidance for Storage of the deceased by Funeral Directors prior to the issue of the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death
August 15, 2024 by funeral-industry-news No Comments | Category Funeral directors, Guidance
The Deaths in the Community Working Group have released guidance for funeral directors outlining what to do when caring for the deceased prior to the provision of the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD) by a registered medical practitioner.
There may be a delay for a number of reasons such as public holiday long weekends or while the decision is being made to report the death to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) and transfer of the deceased to the mortuary designated by COPFS.
The guidance sets out what preparatory work can be carried out and the importance of avoiding any invasive preparatory work.
If you have any questions about the guidance relating to COPFS you can email them to: SFIUNationalStaff@copfs.gsi.gov.uk
