Marine Scotland staff clean-up: 1st July

Last week, colleagues cleaned-up the embankment area and the roadside from the foot of St Fittick’s Road to the Torry Battery car park and then the shore and shore-path from the sandy beach adjacent to the lighthouse (Area 7) back to the “show-beach”(Areas 6 through to 3).

They collected:

• Total effort collecting – 90 minutes
• Number of bin bags filled – 1
• Number of bottles and cans recycled – 84
• Three disposable barbecue sets
• A towel

There’s still a lot of rubbish along the roadside but increasing amount on the beach where people are now having barbecues, for instance.

Two more colleagues, Patricia and Morag came along later and cleaned up the “show-beach” (Area 2).

• Total effort collecting – 90 minutes
• Number of bin bags filled – 0.5
• Number of bottles and cans recycled – 8 (figures include two champagne bottles).

Grand totals

Total effort collecting: 11,975 minutes, or 200 hours;

• Number of bin bags filled – 157
• Number of bottles and cans recycled – 3,050.

A special mention goes to Andy as this was his last volunteering effort with us. Thanks to him for joining-in and we wish him all the best for the future.
